Operator Interface: Barack & Business?

President Barack Obama has taken office and started working on the initiatives set forth during his campaign. Among other pressing concerns, jump-starting the economy tops the list, a process that will no doubt be long and contain numerous moveable parts. Employers may see changes in healthcare and even tax credits based on new hires, among other proposals presented in the lead up to his election.

How you think Obama may potentially affect small businesses like amusement operators across the country? What specific changes would you like to see implemented to assist companies struggling in this difficult financial market?

prizatimInteresting that the only other comment posted about this sticky subject is a spam ad.

I don't think anyone will argue against the fact that the banks, mortgage companies and auto makers have been irresponsible. However it would be just as irresponsible to let them fail. Therefore I believe the bailout is necessary.

However, simply bailing out the banks, etc. is not going to totally fix the economy. We need to increase commerce too. Now here's a simple idea that I believe is a good one; Give us a tax break for purchasing new equipment. Perhaps a 10% tax credit based on the purchase price of the equipment. In other words, if the machine cost $6,000, a $600 credit will be given. I'm not asking for a handout... just a reward for contributing to the economic good of our industry. I believe an incentive of this type would increase revenue for the manufacturers, distributors, operators and even our locations. Seems like a win...win to me.
