Operator Interface for AMOA and Fun Expos and Big Kahuna West

What are your plans and special interests in preparing to go to the AMOA Expo and co-located shows in Las Vegas this September? What expectations and potential purchases do you have in mind? Any opinions on the new souvenir show, Big Kahuna West, that will also be at the civic center? Thoughts on staying at Bally's and travel logistics?

My thoughts are mixed on this show. My distributor here in southern California is holding a spotlight show in August with products that will be unveiled at their distributor show in Chicago. I will probably just attend that spotlight show and the obligatory post AMOA show open houses instead of going to Las Vegas. I'd have to put my fall show travel budget into the IAAPA show instead since that show has more content and "bang for the buck".

I am disappointed by the distance of the host hotel from the convention center after having been spoiled by the ASI show accomodations arrangement in Chicago the past two springs.

As for the souvenir show, I would be less apt to be in a spending mood after the summer season. Another merchandise show makes better sense in the spring so that FEC operators can gear up prize counter selections for the summer season. The same goes for buying equipment. ROI timetables are longer during the winter for equipment so I will usually pass on fall equipment purchases unless a piece is a must have.

All street operators contacted by phone have said at least one person from their business will be attending. While some are positively ecstatic about particular new product, namely Stern's Pirates of the Carribbean pinball and some buzzed about new items and upgrades, others are going with no agenda. Still other ops are hoping to research Internet jukes and use this fall to finally add them to their equipment line.

So what else is on your mind when going or not going this year?
